Revision of Ranji Trophy format approved

Several key issues were discussed in the Working Committee meeting of the BCCI which met in Delhi today. The recommendations of the Special Committee on the revision of the Ranji Trophy format were approved. According to a BCCI communication, the 27 teams in the Ranji Trophy will be divided into three groups of nine sides each.

Among the 27 teams top three teams from Group A, Group B and two teams from Group C will qualify for the knockout stage. The inter-state tournament for the under-22s will be referred to as the A teams tournament, and will feature cricketers in the under-25 age-group.

The India A team will tour New Zealand in September-October 2012. Chhattisgarh will be allowed to participate in the under-16 inter-state tournament (Plate Group). The NKP Salve Challenger Trophy will feature the winners of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and two teams to be picked by the All-India Senior Selection Committee.
